After the Sunmer

September started with the OvBA Watership Down 3D Competition, the results of which for OvBA members were summarised in the previous update, but full results can be found here ... https://drive.google.com/file/d/11GSgLOoiHvEW30gyQhVr83htQGsRtzJ-/view?pli=1

Hampshire v Sussex Field & 3D Shoot

Three of our members went to Sussex to shoot for Hampshire and came away victorious, well done Richard Buckner, Angus Relf and Warren Only member Rachael Graham.

Beginners ... Begin

Our latest Beginners Course started on Saturday the 14th of September with the course expected to conclude on Sunday the 13th of Ocober, we hope they're all enjoying their new adventure and hopefully many will apply to join the club once they've completed the course.

Welsh Field Championships - Pentreff

Two of our Traditional bowstyle members, Steve Allam and Angus Relf, made the trip to a typically wet Welsh event, taking Gold and Silver respectively with Steve Allam setting a new British Records in the Traditional Category for his score of 297 for Saturday's 24 target round and his combined score of 590 across the two days of the two 24 target rounds with half the targets at marked distances and half the targets at unmarked distances.

Congratulations Steve Allam, much deserved for your efforts.

Angus, who we all know is no slouch when it comes to Field Archery, was 110 points behind Steve after the two days but still 39 points ahead of Ceri Thomas who was setting the bar in the Traditional Category not that long ago, so we'll done to both of you on taking tho top two slots.

Hampshire Target Championships

Richard Buckner travelled to Andover and shot Double WA720 rounds over the 21st and 22nd of September in the Hampshire Target Championships.

Coming 9th on Saturday and improving to 5th on Sunday Richard took 2nd out of the Hampshire Archers, well done Richard Buckner.

Portsmouth and Frostbite Challenges

Rob Aldridge will be collecting scores from any member interested in the two challenges the club runs over the Indoor season, from the start of October through to the end of March.

The results are all based on your own improvements, meaning newer members typically fair better than more longstanding members.

Rob will allocate you a 'baseline' score which is based on the scores you shoot in October for Portsmouth and Frostbite rounds.

You then get 2points for every point above your 'baseline' each month of the challenge, but lose 1 point for each point under your 'baseline' if you don't better your 'baseline' one month.

The winner is the person who ends up with the most points at each type of round, hence why newer archers are more likely to do well as they have more scope for improvement.

A Portsmouth round is, 60arrows shot onto a 60cm target set at 20yards using metric scoring, typically shot in ends of 6arrows at Testbourne, but if you want to shoot in ends of 3arrows at Laverstoke then that's fine too, but 6arrows an end is normally how we shoot a Portsmouth. You can shoot Portsmouth rounds at Testbourne or Laverstoke if you can't get to Testbourne on Wednesday evenings.

A Frostbite round is, 36arrows shot onto an 80cm target set at 30metres using metric scoring and shot in ends of 6arrows. Although if you're low on arrows, shoot in ends of 3arrows if you need to.

You can only shoot a Frostbite round at Laverstoke, or another range (if you're lucky enough to have access to one) where you are able to shoot at 30metres.
