Bumper Summer Update

Apologies for the long gap between updates, life has got in the way of additional archery commitments, hence a bit of bumper update!

Apologies for missing any events people have been to that aren't mentioned below, but I've struggled to keep up with everything I'm afraid.

July

The 2024 Overton Black Arrows Watership Down Shoot saw 84 archers take to the gentle slopes of The Warren.

Thanks to all who helped prepare The Warren for the competition and thanks to everyone who helped during the event too, the catering team and work party team were very much appreciated, so thanks to you all.

Overton archers faired quite well overall as ten of our members took part, with their results as follows;

David Mahers was first in the Gents Asiatic category overall, also taking first in HAA & first in SCAS,

Ed Pocket was second in the Gents Barebow category overall, also taking first in HAA & SCAS,

Rob Aldridge was third in the Gents Barebow category overall, also taking second in HAA & second in SCAS,

Terry Edwards was eighth in the Gents Barebow category overall, also taking third in HAA,

Steve Baker was seventh in the Gents Compound Unlimited category overall, also taking second in HAA,

Eric Dunlop deserves a special mention for making it round as much of the course as he did in the Gents Compound Unlimited category, admirably helped by Rob Cornelius on the second day,

Richard Buckner was fourth in the Gents Recurve category overall, also taking first in HAA and second in SCAS,

Paul Williams was eighth in the Gents Recurve category overall, also taking third in HAA,

Steve Allam was first in the Gents Traditional category overall also taking first in HAA & SCAS,

Angus Relf was second in the Gents Traditional category also taking second in HAA & SCAS.

The vent was also graced with three of the Olympic Team ahead of their departure a few days later for Paris 2024, namely Alex Wise, Bryony Pitman and Conor Hall.

A second well attended event this month was the English 3D Championships put on and run by The Fort Purbrook Company of Bowmen on the 20th of July, with OvBA results as follows;

Ian Edwards (a Warren Only member) was first in the AFB category,

David Mahers was first in the Gents Asiatic category,

Ed Pocket was second in the Gents Barebow category,

Rob Aldridge was seventh in the Gents Barebow category,

Steve Baker was seventh in the Gents Compound Unlimited category,

Richard Buckner was second in the Gents Recurve category,

Steve Allam was second in the Gents Traditional category,

Angus Relf was third in the Gents Traditional category.

August

Once again several members headed down to Fort Purbrook to take part in their two day Open Field Championships, fewer slopes than The Warren, but with it's own unique challenges!

The OvBA results were as follows:

Rob Aldridge was fifth in the Gents Barebow category,

Steve Baker was thirteenth in the Gents Compound Unlimited category,

Richard Buckner was fourth in the Gents Recurve category,

Paul Williams was seventh in the Gents Recurve category,

Steve Allam was first in the Gents Traditional category,

Angus Relf was third in the Gents Traditional category.

September 1st

The Warren played host to the 2024 Overton Black Arrows Watership Down Open, which incorporated the HAA & SCAS 3D Championships.

With poor weather forecast in the run up to the weekend, we were blessed with a warm day that just got sunnier as the day went on.

In all 81 archers took to the hills of The Warren to shoot a 24 target 3D course that was a challenging, but fair course, with plenty of archers appreciating the course.

Thanks to all who helped prepare The Warren for the competition and thanks to everyone who helped during the event too, the catering team and work party team are very much appreciated, so thanks to you all.

The OvBA results were as follows;

Ian Edwards took first in Gents AFB in the Open, along with first in HAA & SCAS,

Georgie Jones took first in AFB in the Open, along with first in HAA & SCAS,

David Mahers took second in Gents Asiatic in the Open, along with first in HAA & second SCAS,

Laverstoke Updates

We continue to try and improve things at Laverstoke and have expanded the mowing team, put in a new external tap to keep the kitchen/clubhouse area cleaner so the mowing team can clean down the mower from the new outside tap, plus we have installed a hot water tap over the kitchen sink so you can wash your hands and mugs with warm/hot water whenever you need to.

The next Beginners Course will be starting on the 14th of September, so the range may well be busier than usual on;

Saturday the 14th of September, 10am - 1pm,

Saturday the 21st of September, 10am - 1pm,

Saturday the 28th of September, 10am - 1pm,

Sunday the 13th of October, 10am - 1pm.

Short Term Range Closure - Laverstoke

Also over the middle weekend of September, there will be a marquee put up at the back of the range for a local wedding so they have some extra space for their evening reception guests, so from around 11am on Friday the 13th of September, it might be possible to shoot at Laverstoke while the marquee is being put up, but from 2pm on Saturday the 14th, until it's light enough to shoot on Sunday the 15th, the range will be closed for shooting.
