It’s great to be involved in a club that wants to help, support and encourage all its members. Earlier in the year, the club created a Ladies Only group to create a community of women within the club. Archery membership across the country is roughty 70% male, 30% female, and we wanted to build confidence and help welcome female archers, experienced or new, to the shooting line.
So, to further this aim, the club very kindly sponsored a visit from a much-respected role model within the sport… and, on a warm summer evening, we were delighted to welcome the Olympian Bryony Pitman to coach a very grateful group of ladies.
We made the most of the good weather and the long evening daylight to pick Bryony’s brain, gain shooting practice and have a good catch-up at the end of the session.
Bryony provided one-to-one coaching for the ladies and all benefited from advice and instruction on how to improve their shooting.
It was an insightful session with the archers able to discuss specific areas they wanted to focus on and also learn from her experience as a successful competitor.
Discussing everything from prep, invaluable tips and tricks and equipment Bryony very generously, and patiently, answered all our dozens of questions and provided real insight in how to engage and encourage other ladies into the sport as well as supporting each other.
We’re really pleased to hear that after leaving us Bryony went on to win silver at the World Games in Birmingham USA, just proving how lucky we were to have her time and experience.
Everyone who attended found the session to be invaluable and everyone was keen to make the most of any new opportunities for shooting, coaching or getting involved.
See you all back on the shooting line very soon!
